Improve your rainscreen installation skills

This two-day course combines focused classroom instruction with hands-on practice to give attendees foundational knowledge of rainscreen assembly installation.

For contractors and installers exploring rainscreen work, understanding how each layer of the assembly connects is an important place to start. And for those that want to make sure they have that foundational knowledge, the Rainscreen Association in North America (RAiNA) is offering a two-day Rainscreen Installation Training! 

This course is designed for building professionals who are new to rainscreen assemblies, as such no previous rainscreen experience is required. The day will kick off with four short classroom sessions that cover the following topics:

1. Air and weather barrier (AVB) application: Participants will learn about surface preparation, priming, sequencing and common installation errors.
2. Cladding attachment system installation: This section coverins alignment, spacing, structural considerations and compatibility with insulation and AVBs.
3. Insulation installation: Participants will learn about continuous insulation, mechanical fasteners and thermal bridging.
4. Cladding installation: The final module brings the assembly together with instruction covering fastening, layout, drainage and movement caused by thermal and moisture conditions.

Once the four sessions are completed, attendees will get the chance to apply what they've learned on mock-up walls. This hands-on aspect helps bring all the sessions together and create a strong understanding of the components of a rainscreen system, the proper installation sequence and how the assembly integrates with the rest of the building enclosure.

This course will be held at Metal Design Systems in Iowa from October 27-28, 2026 and registration closes Friday, October 9, 2026. Tools and training materials will be provided, along with a light breakfast and lunch each day. Participants should bring the personal protective equipment required by the host site, such as safety glasses, gloves, boots and hard hats.
